A Spanish painter, draftsman and sculptor who spent most of his life in France, Pablo Ruiz Picasso (1881-1973) is considered the founder of Cubism along with Georges Braque . From the summer of 1946, Picasso populated his graphic universe with creatures from mythology. This faun is presented to us both from the front and from the side. Picasso uses simple abstract forms to represent him, superimposing various geometric shapes on a shaggy, rounded mane, with soothing and earthy colors to perhaps give the impression that he could almost be a natural creature. The representation of the faun runs through all of Picasso's work, thus illustrating the artist's enthusiasm for mythology.
