French designer and decorator, Jules-Emile Leleu (1883-1961) was at the top of decorative art during the Art Deco period in France. Coming from a family of cabinetmakers, he specialized after 1918 in furniture design and from 1926 in the fitting out of ocean liners. The Leleu house was entrusted with the fitting out of numerous embassies and residences of heads of state in France and abroad and the interior decoration of several ocean liners and cargo ships for the Cie Générale Transatlantique such as the France, the Normandie or the Atlantique, which would make the Leleu house the ambassador of the French Art Deco style in the United States. In 2017, Jules' great-granddaughter, Alexia Leleu, relaunched the Leleu creation.
She continues the family work by custom-adapting the house's iconic rugs.
