Persian Flowers

During the last fifty years of the Safavid dynasty, Persian ceramic bottles, cups, bowls and pitchers could have original painted designs, in greens, blues or rusts on a light background.  Many of these motifs, inspired by nature, represented sunflowers and lotuses, stylized by the artists. Using their sense of geometry the Persians transformed these motifs into abstract designs. Here we have a panel of highly organized motifs and arabesques, with abstract but recognizable flowers that demonstrate a strong sense of mastery despite the density and complexity of the design.
