With this painting Picasso (1881-1973) is in the middle of his Cubist period. The character stands out against a background of gray stripes on a flat blue. The head, with its long lock of black hair, resting on the shoulders only by the tip of the chin, is crowned with an almost flamboyant purple hat, striated, asymmetrical, made of curves and points. The eye, right in the center of the painting - and of the figure - is in profile while the one to the left of the triangular nose looks at us from the front, also angular, diamond-shaped. The chest is made of gray and black curves. The colors are sober, of a restricted palette. This portrait, composed of curves and angles, is of great abstraction.
