This scarf, takes up a detail of a small etching by Rembrandt (1606-1669) . An innovative and prolific artist, he is generally considered one of the greatest visual artists in the history of painting and one of the most important painters of the Dutch School of the 17th century , the Dutch Golden Age .
The artist seeks to suggest the peaceful atmosphere of the Dutch countryside at the time. Combining a mountain view with motifs familiar to the artist, a polder plain crossed by canals, a thatched farm nestled in the foliage, this work recalls the Dutch countryside, and in particular the Saint-Antoine dike near Diemen where the artist often walked.
