Craftsman and designer, Louis Comfort Tiffany (1848-1933), nicknamed LCT, is the most famous American representative of Art Nouveau.
His opalescent glass designs, including vases and lamps, are inspired by the plant and animal world. After his father's death, LCT became the first designer at Tiffany & Co. A leader of the Art Nouveau movement, LCT brought a unique touch of American creativity to objects and jewelry imbued with naturalism. Inspired by the aesthetic disorder of nature (flowers, foliage, fruits and insects), LCT became known for his organic designs. In his expert hands, garnets became berries with green enamel leaves, opals became grape cluster motifs, while black opals and demantoid garnets combined with platinum were sublimated on a dragonfly-shaped brooch.
