Between 1878 and 1898, the Barcelona industrialist Eusebi Güell commissioned Antoni Gaudí (1852-1926) to build several architectural works. The relationship they maintained was a true story of friendship. Gaudí received the commission for the Park Güell project in 1900, at a time when Art Nouveau was definitively triumphing at the International Exhibition in Paris. It was an urban development project for wealthy families in Barcelona on a large property that Güell had purchased in the area popularly known as Muntanya Pelada in Barcelona. Güell wanted to recreate the British residential parks, which is why he gave it the name Park Güell, in English. Its location was unrivaled, with splendid views of the sea and the plain of Barcelona. Made public after Güell's death in 1926, it was recognized as a Cultural Heritage of Humanity by UNESCO in 1984.
