Pierre Bonnard (1867-1947) was not only a painter, but also a French illustrator and lithographer. Although he was initially one of the painters of the Nabis group, with whom he remained friends throughout his life, Bonnard developed an independent and unclassifiable work, offering the appearance of simplicity although of a rare complexity, without taking into account the major movements of his time such as cubism or surrealism. The landscapes of Le Cannet and the light of the South were inexhaustible sources of inspiration for him. It was during this period, which lasted nearly 22 years, that he painted his most inspired paintings.
