Elizabeth Louise Vigée-Le Brun (1755-1842)
Elisabeth Louise Vigée-Le Brun is a painter, considered a great portraitist of her time. Her most famous painting today is undoubtedly that of Marie-Antoinette with a rose, symbol of beauty, where Elisabeth Vigée-Lebrun gives us a view of a very human sovereign.
This flattering, very intimate portrait shows a queen who, dressed in a magnificent silk dress with baskets, is making a bouquet. The artist paints her with a soft and mellow style in an architectural setting that allows her a real staging, with columns, tables and draperies. In detail, the beautiful tones of the rose are highlighted against the soft drape of the silk, which is the charm of this scarf which takes up precisely these two details of the painting: the rose and the silky background of the dress.
