Raoul Dufy (1893-1953) and Bianchini-Férier: a painter, an industrialist, two players in art and fashion. From this fruitful alliance of aesthetics and technique were to be born major works of textile creation at the beginning of the 20th century. Before this adventure: the fashion designer Paul Poiret, eager for novelty, who suggested to Dufy to transpose the technique of woodcutting onto fabric. In 1911 Dufy accepted the proposal of Charles Bianchini, a great silk maker from Lyon for whom he would create more than 3000 textile designs until 1929. His natural fantasy linked to his work with color brings out floral themes, animal motifs and borrowings from oriental imagery. "Thanks to Poiret and Bianchini-Férier, I was able to show that decoration and painting quench their thirst at the same source."
