William Klein (1928-2022) was an American-French photographer, painter, visual artist, graphic designer and director. A multidisciplinary artist, he revolutionized certain areas of photography such as fashion photography and street photography. His works on the great world capitals New York, Rome, Moscow, Tokyo, Paris, contributed to making him one of the most influential photographers of his generation. Drawing on this same concept, William Klein pushed experimentation to the point of producing, from the end of the 1980s, what he called painted contacts, including "Club Allegro Fortissimo", a remarkable synthesis of his photography, painting and filmmaking work. Thus, he enlarged extracts from his photo films to paint directly on the image. The result was a unique visual language, which highlights the resolutely graphic dimension of his work.
