Picasso - Woman with a Hat

Picasso experiences changing loves, he always loves passionately. Each new woman is like the first. For each one (here Olga), he invents a new language, a new writing that allows him to grasp the personality of his model and to capture the essence of life through feminine beauty.

The portrait, a major transversal theme in Picasso's work, is made here of geometric shapes where he pursues the dissociation between form and object, an idea dear to the surrealists. Composed of beautiful flat areas of cold colors, this portrait seems to be half-woman, half-bird, both from the front and from the side. Two large questioning eyes challenge the viewer.
