A Franco-Swiss painter, engraver, illustrator, sculptor, art critic and novelist born in Lausanne, Félix Vallotton (1865-1925) entered the Académie Julian in Paris in 1882, the studios frequented by many post-impressionist artists, including the future Nabis.
In less than ten years, the young Swiss managed to make a name for himself among the Parisian avant-garde. Inventive, always in search of new forms of expression, Félix Vallotton produced paintings characterized by a painting in flat areas of bright colors. Touched by the horror of the First World War, he found a source of inspiration in the conflict, renewing his success towards the end of the war.
