In various forms, a spiritual content has always guided the work of Wassily Kandinsky (1866-1944). Here we find, studded with animal figures, the blue dear to the artist, a symbol of optimism and spirituality despite the misfortunes of the time.
Secluded in his apartment in Neuilly-sur-Seine during the Occupation, Kandinsky dreams of a cosmic and poetic world.
In 1940, Vassily Kandinsky visited Joan Miró in Varengeville-sur-Mer. Following this visit, he borrowed from the surrealist artist the "color of [his] dreams" and the constellations of biomorphic forms. In this time of war, as if in a gesture of withdrawal into nature, Kandinsky populated his abstraction with a multitude of cellular forms, small fantasy creatures. From the title, we can conclude that the painter favors the background over the biomorphic forms suspended in the space that they animate, and that it is a mistake on our part to seek to detail these small beings invited to the party.
