Purple Navy Kimono

This pattern is a completely abstract design made of tiny dots that form patterns reminiscent of the Edo period (1615-1868) in Japan.

The silk kimono as we know it today was once called "kosode". This T-shaped piece of silk was worn close to the body with rather short sleeves. Although its appearance dates back to the Heian era (794-1185), this style of clothing was imported from China. The very term kimono, which appeared later in the 13th century, is above all a reference to clothing in general, since the word combines the verb to wear (kiru) and the word thing (mono): "What one wears on oneself". It was only with the introduction of Western fashion, during the Meiji era (1868-1912), that its definition evolved. It then became the synonym for "kosode" and the kimono as tourists can today have fun trying on for a souvenir photo shoot.
