Painter of figures, nudes, portraits, animated landscapes, interiors, still lifes, flowers and fruits, Pierre Bonnard (1867-1947) was also an engraver and illustrator. A post-impressionist artist, he was part of the Nabis group. He gradually found a very personal path, where he used light and luminous color palettes, all supported by a very sure sense of composition and drawing. His main concern was light. "Bathers at the End of the Day" is a painting produced around 1945. This oil on canvas depicts bathers in the sea at the end of the day, the artist representing them with a dozen spots in yellow and orange more or less grouped in the lower left quarter of the composition. Acquired in 2018, the work is part of the collections of the Bonnard Museum, in Le Cannet, in the Alpes-Maritimes.
