Pierre Bonnard (1867-1947) was not only a painter, but also a French illustrator and lithographer. Although he was initially one of the painters of the Nabis group, with whom he remained friends throughout his life, Bonnard developed an independent and unclassifiable work, offering the appearance of simplicity although of a rare complexity, without taking into account the major movements of his time such as cubism or surrealism. The landscapes of Le Cannet and the light of the South were inexhaustible sources of inspiration for him. It was during this period, which lasted nearly 22 years, that he painted his most inspired paintings. "Jardin au Cannet", with its mauve and mossy pink colors, according to one of his usual techniques, makes the irradiation of these colors more sunny and more caressing at the same time.
Moreover, it is a mature painting by Pierre Bonnard, whose death occurred two years after he painted this garden with its bright and luminous colors. A work marked by great sensitivity, with frank touches and divided colors, "The Garden at Le Cannet" recomposes a joyful and summery symphony where nature is magnified.
