A century-old establishment, heir to the National Fund for Historic and Prehistoric Monuments created in 1914, the Centre des monuments nationaux is a public establishment attached to the Ministry of Culture and Communication.

The fundamental missions of the establishment The heritage code entrusts the CMN with three major complementary missions: the conservation of historic monuments and their collections, the dissemination of their knowledge and their presentation to the widest possible public, the development of their attendance and their use.
