Korhogo cloths are a traditional work of the Senufo ethnic group from the town of Korhogo and more specifically from the village of Fakaha in Ivory Coast. Korhogo is made by hand printing designs on hand-woven and hand-spun cotton. The prints are made using a natural plant pigment made from specially fermented mud that darkens over time, and the designs are usually stenciled. Once finished, the cloth is often used for clothing, decoration and more. The Senufo use the cloth as a shield against vengeful spirits by wearing it or hanging it in homes/shrines. Korhogo is commissioned for hunters (important heroic figures) and rite of passage events such as funerals/special ceremonies.
