In 1482, Ludovico Sforza, Duke of Milan, asked Leonardo to build the largest equestrian statue in the world: a monument to the glory of his father. For nearly 16 years, Leonardo made countless anatomical drawings of horses to complete this project. Unfortunately, the sculpture did not see the light of day during his lifetime. It was created 5 centuries later in 1977, at the request of a passionate art collector. It can be seen today at the San Siro racecourse in Milan.
