Jones - Greek Palmettes, Bordeaux Wool & Silk

Since its first publication in 1856, this treatise on decoration by Owen Jones (1809-1874) has inspired countless artists, designers and architects, from William Morris to Frank Lloyd Wright. This illustrated encyclopedia catalogues decorative styles from every era and from every horizon, from China to Egypt, from Persia to the Italian Renaissance and from Africa to the Middle Ages. First published in 1856, the sumptuous folio showcased superb patterns and ornaments in 112 illustrated plates, 19 diverse cultural periods, with a final chapter revelling in the glory of the natural world. Many of the designs in our collection are inspired by this major work by Owen Jones.
