A Spanish painter, draftsman and sculptor who spent most of his life in France, Pablo Ruiz Picasso (1881-1973) is considered the founder of Cubism with Georges Braque. Between 1907 and 1914, he produced paintings that would be called "Cubist". As in this "Still Life with Fruit, Glass, Knife and Newspaper", his paintings are characterized by a research into geometry and the forms represented: all the objects are divided and reduced to simple geometric forms. This actually means that an object is not represented as it really is, but by codes corresponding to its known reality. Here, Picasso has broken down the image into multiple facets and destroyed the forms of reality.
