William Morris (1834–1896) was a British manufacturer, textile designer, printer, writer, poet, lecturer, painter, draughtsman and architect, famous for his literary works, his libertarian political commitment, his publishing work and his creations in the field of decorative arts, as a member of the Pre-Raphaelite Brotherhood, which are among the sources of the Arts & Crafts movement which had, in this field, one of the most important influences in Great Britain in the 20th century.
Morris's love of medieval herbariums of foliage, leaves and other fragrant herbs that he observed during his walks in nature is reflected here in this beautiful circular pattern with subtle tones of green and blue. Here we can see his famous acanthus leaves, rosemary in a very harmonious profusion of green tones all intertwined with cornflowers.
